“Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up” (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10, New International Version). When God created man and woman and told them to go forth and multiply, He expected that both parents would be there to care of their children.
Any parent knows that it takes a lot of patience, care, and strength when raising a child. Caring for a child is a lot of responsibility. It helps to have another parent to rely on and ask for support. Unfortunately, there are situations that occur where the child or children are being raised by one parent. Trying to provide for a child causes a great amount of stress on any parent. No parent is perfect and sometimes it is difficult. You try to do the right things, but it’s not always easy. This is why parents need to find their strength in God. God provides for those who need it.
To remove one of the parents, for whatever reason, places that much more strain on the single parent. That one parent needs all of the support they can find. The one and most stable being a person can lean on is God. He can be that extra parent you need to complete the parenthood partnership.
Kumisha Saffold talks about her story of being a single parent in the book called It’s My Testimony: A Devotional Journal for Women by Women. She states that the thought of being a young, inexperienced parent terrified her. The worry of the baby not being born terrified her more, but God provided her with a baby girl. Years later, Kumisha stated that, “God had this all planned out” (p. 67). God does have everything planned out. Children are truly a blessing that God has provided parents. It may not always feel that way, but God gives us strength to love and care for our children. If you want to read more about the strength that God has given these thirty ladies, read It’s My Testimony: A Devotional Journal for Women by Women.
