Spiritual Writing: What it Does for Our Relationship with God

In general, writing is an art that helps writers express ourselves. The more writing that we do, the better word artists we become. This also relates to spiritual writing. Spiritual writing is writing that helps reflect our life and our relationship with God.

We may write in a journal about our feelings, news or thoughts. Some people have been known to put bible verses in their diaries or journals. Spiritual writing can be like praying to God. We can write down any feelings or news and He’ll listen. This can strengthen our relationship with God.

As David, one of the more prolific writers of the Psalms said, “The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters, He refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for His name’s sake” (Psalm 23:1-3 New International Version). If we have no writers such as David, then we have no beautiful Psalms to sing praises to God. If we do not write our spiritual thoughts, are we not denying God the praise He deserves and wants from us? We may never have the beauty of writing as David, but it will still be a sweet, sweet sound to his ears.

The devotional journal, It's My Testimony: A Devotional Journal for Women by Women, includes journal prompts to allow you to write on a daily basis, thereby strengthening your walk with God. It's a thirty one day devotional journal that is written by thirty women from all walks of life, cultures and creeds. It will bless you indeed.
