Quiet and Still Prayer

The world has become a very busy place. There are fast foods. There is high speed internet. There are next day deliveries of items you can buy from the other side of the planet. We never are just sitting still. We rarely listen to each other because we are so tied up and busy with our own lives. How good does it feel when you take a deep breath and sigh? How good does it feel to sit in the middle of a park with no hustle and bustle going on? You can sit and hear the birds’ chirp. You can hear what the person next to you is saying .

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth” (Psalms 46:10 New International Version). This verse talks about the idea that if we stand still and listen, we can hear God. We can hear more than ever before. This is why it is important to find a nice and quiet place when we pray. Walk into a quiet room. Kneel or sit down. Cross your fingers. Put your hands in your lap. Close your eyes and pray. Sometimes there may be certain prayer requests that you have in mind. Other times you may just want to talk to God. Either way, if you listen hard enough, you may hear God talk back.
